Academic Assessment

 

At Cambridge International School Kapurthala, assessment is designed to support meaningful learning and continuous improvement. The school follows a balanced and student-centric evaluation system aligned with CBSE guidelines and NEP recommendations, focusing on conceptual understanding, application of knowledge, and skill development.

Academic Session Structure

The academic session is divided into two terms:

·         Term I: April to September

·         Term II: November to March

This structured division helps students maintain consistency in learning while allowing timely evaluation and academic support.

Continuous & Comprehensive Evaluation System : To ensure continuous monitoring of student progress, the school conducts different types of assessments across classes:

Internal Assessment (Nursery to Grade 8)

·         Conducted twice a year

·         One assessment in each term

·         Focuses on:

o    Holistic Development of the student

o    Concept clarity

o    Class participation

o    Projects and activities

o    Oral and written work

o    Behavioural and skill development

This promotes stress-free and holistic evaluation as recommended by NEP.

Periodic Assessment (Grades 9 & 10)

·         Conducted twice annually (one per term)

·         Includes:

o    Competency-based questions

o    Case-study based learning

o    Subject enrichment activities

o    Portfolio and project work

These assessments help prepare students for board examination patterns.

Unit Tests (Grades 11 & 12)

·         Conducted twice a year

·         Helps students:

o    Strengthen exam readiness

o    Improve time management

o    Develop analytical and writing skills

Regular testing ensures consistent academic discipline and performance tracking.

Major Examinations:

Half-Yearly Examination

·         Conducted in September (end of Term I)

·         Evaluates cumulative learning of the first term

·         Helps identify strengths and areas for improvement

Annual Examination

·         Conducted in March (end of Term II)

·         Comprehensive assessment of the entire academic session

·         Determines overall academic achievement and promotion
